Block.one Announces EOSIO 2.0: More Security, Speed and Stability

Crypto firm Block.one

Over six months after the crypto industry leader Block.one, parent of the cryptocurrency EOS, teased us with an improved version of the EOSIO 1.0 protocol, the blockchain firm is back on the scene with a better, faster and more secure version: the EOSIO 2.0.

Around mid-2019, Block.one announced a newer version of the EOSIO 1.0 protocol. The newer version, which is obviously an upgrade from the first version, was dubbed EOSIO 2.0, and the crypto-oriented firm swears this protocol is a lot faster, simpler, and secure than the former and virtually any other blockchain platform available on the market.

According to the latest announcement from Block.one, the difference between this stable version of EOSIO 2.0 and the one launched last year is just a few additional fixes such as security, stability, and miscellaneous fixes.

Like the former EOSIO, this stable version is targeted at making life easier for developers and users of the EOSIO platform. With these additional fixes, developers can now grow their projects from the ground up without going under the knives.

Safer and Faster Blockchain

The new EOSIO 2.0 comes with improved tools such as EOSIO Quickstart Web IDEO, EOS VM, WebAuthn, Support, and Weighted Threshold Multi-Signature Block Production Support.

Each of these tools is targeted at making developing on the platform a whole lot easier, faster, and safer – with emphasis on faster. The company states:

“We believe the single biggest bottleneck for blockchain development is the speed in which they can execute smart contracts.”

To achieve their speed goals, the Block.one team developed the EOS VM – a purpose-built Blockchain WebAssembly (WASM), focused on improving speed and performance up to 16x of that of Binaryen – which launched just about the same time with EOSIO 1.0 protocol.

Besides speed, the Block.one team also paid attention to security, which is one major issue of the Blockchain and crypto ecosystem today. To solve this imminent menace, EOSIO 2.0 is equipped with WebAuthn Support.

“A widely accepted secure authentication standard that enables transaction signing without browser extensions or additional software.”

To make it safer, the EOSIO 2.0 also comes with Weighted Threshold Multi-Signature Block Production Support. This feature is a sound solution for private keys issues. It offers a safe measure for block procedures to use different keys while signing in blocks on primary and backup block hardware.

The last astounding tool featured on the new protocol is the EOSIO Quickstart Web IDE, created solely for developers. This is a powerful self-help web-based integrated development environment designed for building EOSIO smart contracts and related web apps. With this self-help environment, developers can go from zero to 100 in a couple of minutes without stress nor fear.
