Vimeo Launches New AI Features to Simplify Video Editing and Scripting

According to Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud, the new AI features are part of Vimeo’s vision to empower anyone to create professional-quality videos with minimal effort and resources.

Leading video platform for professionals and businesses, Vimeo, has announced the launch of three new AI-powered features. These new features aim to make video creation significantly easier and faster.

Introducing Vimeo’s Smart Scripts, Smart Prompts, and Smart Cuts

Vimeo’s three new AI tools are an AI script generator, a built-in teleprompter, and a text-based video editing tool. On its part, the AI script generator churns out video scripts based on the user’s input. It uses a natural language processing (NLP) model trained on millions of videos to produce engaging and coherent scripts that match the user’s tone and voice. Furthermore, it can also convert text to speech and speech to text, making it easy to add narration or subtitles to videos.

Beyond this, the teleprompter allows users to maintain their focus on the screen and speak like a pro without having to bother about what to say next. The last tool also allows you to remove vocal crutches like ‘uhms’ and ‘ehms’. It can trim, crop, splice, and rearrange clips in seconds, saving hours of manual work. Used together, these three new tools may remove the need for multiple videos takes when creating videos.

According to Vimeo CEO Anjali Sud, the new AI features are part of Vimeo’s vision to empower anyone to create professional-quality videos with minimal effort and resources. “We believe that video is the most powerful form of communication, and we want to make it accessible and affordable for everyone,” she said in a press release.

Jumping on the Bandwagon

Vimeo is not the only video platform that is leveraging AI to simplify video creation. Several startups, including Capsule, Descript and Dumme, already feature AI video editing tools. Other competitors such as Adobe, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram have also introduced various AI tools and features to help users create and edit videos.

However, what makes Vimeo different from other video platforms is its focus on professional and business users. Currently, Vimeo has over 200 million users worldwide and hosts over 1.5 billion videos. After suffering an initial setback in 2023, Vimeo hopes to attract more users and increase its market share with its new AI features.
