OpenAI Partners G42 for AI Advancement in the Middle East

G42’s recent partnership with OpenAI shows the company’s dedication to fostering AI adoption in the UAE.

OpenAI, the brains behind the creation of the popular artificial intelligence (AI) tool, ChatGPT has entered into a strategic partnership with Abu Dhabi’s technology conglomerate G42.

In an announcement on Wednesday, the company said that the new collaboration will help advance the adoption of AI technologies in Dubai and across the Middle East market.

G42 to Leverage OpenAI’s AI Generative Models

Under the partnership, G42 plans to leverage OpenAI’s state-of-the-art generative AI models across key sectors of its business including finance, energy, healthcare, and public services.

Through this collaboration, G42 will streamline the integration process for companies in the UAE and other regions in the Middle East, enabling them to seamlessly incorporate advanced AI capabilities into their existing business frameworks.

On the other hand, OpenAI will exploit the company’s business expertise and infrastructural prowess to introduce AI solutions tailored to resonate with the region’s distinct requirements.

“Our partnership with G42 is a significant commitment to further harnessing AI’s transformative power. Leveraging G42’s industry expertise, we aim to empower businesses and communities with effective solutions that resonate with the nuances of the region,” said Sam Altman, Co-Founder and CEO of OpenAI.

Additionally, the San Francisco-based company will receive the support of G42 in its local and regional inferencing using Microsoft Azure data centers.

AI Adoption in the Middle East

G42’s recent partnership with OpenAI shows the company’s dedication to fostering AI adoption in the UAE. In a significant move this July, the company collaborated with Cerebras Systems, a US-based firm, to create the world’s largest AI training supercomputer.

At the same time, UAE’s neighboring country Saudi Arabia is also making waves in the AI sector across the Middle East. Earlier this year, the country unveiled its collaboration with Chinese universities to develop an Arabic-based AI system.

According to the announcement, the large language model (LLM) named AceGPT was developed based on Meta’s Llama 2 model. The tool is designed to serve as an AI assistant tailored for Arabic speakers, capable of responding to queries in Arabic.

Meanwhile, during his global AI tour in June, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, emphasized the need for international regulation in the field of AI during his visit to Abu Dhabi.
