Let’s Stop Pretending Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande’s ‘Rain On Me’ Isn’t Terrible

  • Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga just released the video for “Rain on Me.”
  • The outfits, choreography, and sound are straight out of the early 2000s, the worst era in music.
  • That would be fine if the rest of the video made any sense.

Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga just released the video for their new single “Rain on Me,” and, boy, it’s tough to watch.

But what else would you expect when you channel one of the corniest eras of music?

Sadly, this video would’ve been terrible in any era. The two artists do not complement each other. The video makes little to no sense. And their fans deserve better.

What Is Happening in ‘Rain on Me’?

There are so many questions left unanswered. Why does Lady Gaga have a knife in her leg? Do her long, sharp fingernails mean anything? Why are some of her dancers wearing cat costumes?

Why is Ariana Grande wearing butterfly wings that look like they’re from a Halloween USA store?

Did you really need to rip your style from the early 2000s?

It’s like they asked, “What if Jessica Simpson tried to make a Thriller video?” And then gave her a song that didn’t fit the concept.

Seriously, what’s going on with these wings? | Source: YouTube

The only thing in this entire video that makes sense is the actual rain.

Hey Lady Gaga, It’s Too Soon to Bring Back the Early 2000s

We’ve already resurrected the 80s with the stonewashed jeans, tight pants, and a renewed love for neon.

Artists have started to mimic the 90s. Rappers are shamelessly covering The Backstreet Boys. They’re also paying homage to icons like the Fresh Prince. The Last Dance caught fire.

It makes sense that if you consider yourself a groundbreaking artist, you might get the bright idea to fast forward into the early 2000s.

But when you’re a pop star, it’s a terrible idea, because that is easily one of the most forgettable eras in music history.

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are blatantly ripping off artists from that time. They rip their outfits from a mishmash of music videos from that era.

They took a little bit from TLC. Those giant platform shoes? Seen them! And the whole thing looks like it’s trying to be the dance scene from the Matrix.

Oh, and Britney Spears called. She wants her dance choreography back.

Ariana Grande – Are You Okay?

While Lady Gaga may have ripped some styles from the 2000s, that’s understandable. Artists copy other artists all of the time. But at least she looked invested.

She embodied the frenetic energy of the video, and even though it looked hilarious, she gave it her all.

Ariana Grande, though? She just looks lost.

Either that or she looks like she realized how dumb this video was going to be while she was doing it.

Regardless, it’s awkward.

Ariana Grande’s sultry energy looks entirely out of place in this industrial, wet, unforgiving setting. It’s even more ridiculous when the camera cuts to Lady Gaga spazzing out like a punk-rocker in a mosh pit.

Both of these ladies are superstars. Maybe they thought they would combine to create one giant star.

But no, they’ve just crashed into each other, and the debris is raining down on all of us.
