ESPN Global has integrated online gaming with blockchain technology to launch a gaming platform that enables individuals to earn cash by winning battles and tournaments. The soon-to-be-launched gaming platform will also allow players to make deposits and withdrawals using bitcoin (BTC), according to a press release issued on July 23, 2020.
Another Step toward Bitcoin Adoption
ESPN Global Corporation Ltd. run ESPN Global recently unveiled a blockchain technology-powered gaming platform that will let players make deposits and withdrawals in BTC and other cryptocurrencies.
The gaming platform, which ESPN calls a “unique blockchain-based gaming revolution” is currently under the pre-launch phase and uses cryptocurrency payments specialist “Cryptopay” to ensure simpler, rapid, and secure crypto transactions.
Notably, U.K.-based mobile e-sports platform ESPN Global offers some of the most sought after games in one population. The app allows users to select a game of their choice and join a group of participants to play it with. Users can also compete with one another in real-time while the winner is determined on the basis of the highest score.
Chris Parker, one of the Directors at ESPN Global cited research done by a management consulting group called 3EA Limited that found the digital micro-transactions heavy $140 billion worth global e-sports and online gaming industry can “benefit immensely from the integrity and resilience of blockchain technology.”
Parker also shared details about the future plans of the latest e-sports venture, saying,
“Apart from further advancement in our application and integration of more exciting Blockchain-based games, our Incorporation is intended to launch IEO (Initial Exchange Offering) of our own SGT (Smart Gaming Token) based on ERC-20 platform, once we built a good e-sport community.”
He added,
“From the day we start our operations, we will be giving airdrops of SGTs to all registered players as a gift. Not only this, all players who will lose money by participating in any games or tournaments, their losses will be covered by our corporation and their ERC wallets will be credited with our SGT airdrops which will be equivalent to their losses.”
ESPN Global estimates the current valuation of SGT airdrops at $0.001 which it expects to increase in tandem with the growing gaming community.
Blockchain and e-sports
The gaming industry is known for being one of the most receptive industries toward emerging technology which makes the increasing penetration of blockchain technology in the space not entirely unexpected.
As reported by BTCManager on May 21, blockchain interoperability-focused KardiaChain launched the KardiaChain e-sports Incentive Platform in a bid to capture the $2 billion worth Vietnamese e-sports industry.
