Opera Browser Introduces Enhanced Support for Bitcoin in Built-In Digital Wallet

In a major shift in its design philosophy, the mobile/desktop browser application Opera has revamped its UI and UX for its android mobile platform; and more importantly, it has improved the cryptocurrency integration with its digital wallet.

Only Ethereum (ETH)trade had been supported by the browser but with the newer version, 54, Bitcoin(BTC)trade can also be added to the digital wallet. Additionally, the company has also added support for the Tron blockchain and Tron DApps.

It is noteworthy that of the five most popular browsers – Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet, Opera and UC Browser – Opera remains the only browser to offer its customers a support for a digital payment option with cryptocurrency. With the latest edition, users will now be able to make payments using Bitcoin.

The Norwegian software company first introduced a crypto payment option back in July last year. Back then, it only offered payment option using Ethereum. Ethereum is often seen as a low-profile cryptocurrency that acts as an alternate to Bitcoin. The co-founder of the cryptocurrency, Joseph Lubin, then commented:”It’s a significant step for one of the world’s leading browsers to add an Ethereum-based crypto wallet and Dapp explorer, and speaks to Opera’s innovative roots and commitment to embracing next generation technology.”

After the digital wallet was launched last year, the company quickly expanded its browser functionality to include desktop and iOS platforms as well. Then, a year later, the company announced that it was working to integrate the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin and Tron to its digital wallet too. This latest edition, version 54, is a realization of that statement.

In the blog post, the company boasted that after the recent edition, making transactions with Bitcoin will be as convenient as sending a music or an image file. Not only that, users can use Bitcoin to make payments while interacting with e-commerce platforms.

Opera continues to develop more infrastructure to create a coherent digital ecosystem for a robust online payment system using cryptocurrency. For instance, after introducing its digital wallet with Ethereum support last year, the company added a VPN support and synced it with the Android wallet. This allowed the users to store keys and get themselves identified securely through their smartphones.

As of now, the support for the enhanced digital wallet is restricted to Android only. But it is expected that the support will be extended to the desktop and the iOS platforms in the months to come.
