- Miley Cyrus delivered a risqué performance at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.
- She’s back to letting her relationship history dictate her image.
- Miley’s nearing 30 years old; this attitude isn’t cute anymore.
Miley Cyrus hasn’t carried that ‘girl-next-door’ image in a long time, but she did recently claim a return to her Hannah Montana days might be on the cards.
Her VMA Appearance Was Like Deja Vu
If her attitude at the VMAs is any indication, Miley’s regressing to the days where twerking and thrusting were the norm.
Clad in a sheer black dress that left little to the imagination, Miley finished the look off with gloves and underwear. Unsurprisingly, she also had time to stick her tongue out for the cameras.
Seven years after her infamous Wrecking Ball video, Miley reunited with the wrecking ball in another display of open sexuality. Since we’ve already seen this before, it can hardly be considered an evolution for the singer.
This is a recurring habit for Miley, who seems to feel that carrying an overtly sexual image is the only way to bounce back after a high-profile break-up.
Another Break-up, Another Wild Miley Cyrus
Not long after her break-up with Liam Hemsworth, Miley first raised eyebrows at the 2013 VMAs in a twerking fiasco with Robin Thicke that courted significant controversy.
In 2018, the singer admitted the performance negatively affected her self-esteem, and vowed to use her celebrity status to make a motivational impact in the future. This was at the time when she’d reunited with Hemsworth and began cultivating a more wholesome image.
Cut to the couple’s divorce, and Miley is back to her former antics. Her much-publicized relationships have guaranteed her a spot in showbiz news for all the wrong reasons.
Fresh off the Hemsworth split, and Miley was spread across the internet over a fling with Brody Jenner’s ex, Kaitlynn Carter. Within a month, the two were kaput, and Miley was in the arms of singer Cody Simpson, as seen in the video below:
Following the Simpson break-up, and we’ve been treated to the latest Miley Cyrus extravaganza.
The problem is that Miley isn’t a teenager – she’s on the wrong side of her 20s, meaning her antics aren’t cute anymore. If anything, it feels like a cry for attention.
Miley’s Her Own Enemy
Miley isn’t a career diva like Mariah Carey, nor is she a trailblazer in the sexual image like Madonna. Her image isn’t centered around her music; it’s being defined by the heights of craziness she’s willing to reach each time she dumps someone.
Claiming she wants to be remembered as the wholesome Hannah Montana – only to swing around on a ball in her underwear – is the attitude of a clueless young girl. Miley’s going to be 30 in a couple of years, and the excuses have run out.
If she wants her legacy to be recognized as Miley Cyrus, the singer, then it’s time to stop acting like a teenager and choose an image that works around her musical talents.
If she’s happy with Miley the Social Media Lothario, then go on and twerk your heart out, Miley. Just don’t cry about it when people treat you like a child.
