Marvel’s Spider-Man Will Be 2020’s Best Gaming Freebie Yet

  • The Marvel’s Spider-Man listing on the PlayStation Store suggests PS4 exclusive could be a PlayStation Plus freebie next month.
  • It’s unclear whether this is a blunder or the first hint about June’s PS Plus lineup.
  • If genuine, this would be a marked improvement on last’s month mediocre spread.

If the game’s listing on the UK version of the PlayStation Store is anything to go by, Marvel’s Spider-Man could very well be among next month’s PlayStation Plus freebies.

PlayStation Store Listing

Visiting the store listing, then clicking on ‘Add to Basket’ throws up a prompt to choose a version to add to the store’s shopping basket. One of the options is the Standard Edition of the critically acclaimed PlayStation 4 exclusive. Just below it is the all-too-familiar PS Plus logo alongside ‘free.’

Interestingly, the same Marvel’s Spider-Man version pop-up also lists the Standard Edition by ‘£7.99’ alongside the PS Plus logo, which could be hinting at a massive discount as part of PlayStation’s upcoming Days of Play sale.

Unless this is some blunder on the part of the PS Store, we may be looking at the first sign that PlayStation is gifting Marvel’s Spider-Man to PS Plus subscribers in June.

Leaks and rumors about upcoming PlayStation Plus freebies tend to circulate near the end of the previous month before PlayStation spills the beans in an official capacity roughly on the last Wednesday of the month.

Although we can’t verify how genuine the leak is right now, we shouldn’t have long to wait. The last Wednesday of May is but two short days away.

A Marked Improvement on Last Month

If Marvel’s Spider-Man does feature next month, it will be a marked improvement on last month’s underwhelming duo of Cities: Skylines and Farming Simulator 19. Not that they are bad games, but they lack the allure of a highly-acclaimed PlayStation 4 exclusive.

May’s offering also stood in stark contrast to two stellar months beforehand. April brought Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, while March’s freebie selection included Shadow of the Colossus.

We’d suggest holding your breath on this one until we hear more from Sony, whether that’s discrediting the leak or revealing next month’s spread of PlayStation Plus freebies.
