Hahn Air, one of the most prominent airline distribution companies, has become a pioneer in establishing itself as the first airline in the world to issue a real-world ticket through blockchain technology.
Blockchain-powered tickets will be available on ‘Winding Tree’ which is decentralized travel network powered by blockchain. The company has also become the first airline to cater passengers with tickets powered by blockchain on a flight scheduled from Dusseldorf to Luxemburg.
The passengers holding blockchain-powered tickets on the flight of November 18th, 2019, were founder of Winding Tree, Maksim Izmaylov, the CIO of the company Davide Montali, and the head of sales engineering at Hahn Air, Fredrick Nowotny.
Frederick Nowotny of Hahn Air commented that the company is constantly exploring and developing new technologies, and is proud to now put that into use and show its technical abilities to distribute Hahn Air tickets powered by blockchain.
He further added that the company is pleased to be collaborating with Winding Tree, one of the prominent companies in the field of travel inventory distribution in the blockchain sphere. He said that the goal of the company is to investigate and oversee the explorations of this technology that can potentially benefit travel distribution, even if acceptance on a wider scale is still far-fetched.
The founder of Winding Tree, Maksim Izmaylov, added that although blockchain technology right now is completely and only associated with digital currencies such as Bitcoin(BTC)trade, it holds great potential for different industries and can be used for countless applications. He believes that this can have a large effect on all sectors of economy and trade for the decades to come.
Blockchain to Radically Change Distribution Travel
Izmaylov added that the company thinks that blockchain will have power, similar to NDC, to change the essence of distribution travel from a fundamental level. With more comprehension of the technology and some creativity, he says that Hahn Air is the perfect partner for them to collaborate with.
Through this platform of Winding Tree, Hahn Air has been able to create a list of inventories, manage the requests of reservations and receive payments after the completion of booking process. Currently, the accepted methods of payment are traditional cash, credit card or cryptocurrency, limited to Winding Tree’s own digital coin LIF or Ethereum (ETH)trade.
