The China-based crypto mining hardware manufacturer, Bitmain, was one of the highlights of the World Digital Mining Summit held in Frankfurt, Germany last month. The company introduced two flagship miners called Antminers T17+ and S17+.
The two cryptocurrency miners were introduced to the audience by the co-founder of Bitmain, Jihan Wu. The latest backend of the miners focuses on making massive improvements in terms of energy efficiency and processing power, even better than the S17e and T17e. The S17+ comes packed with a hash rate of 73 TH/s and with a power efficiency of 40 J/TH + 10%, while the T17+ offers a hash rate of 64 TH/s and a power efficiency of 50 J/TH + 10%.
Mr. Wu apprised the audience at the Summit that after intensive research and development iterations, the crypto mining company was able to boost performance of the devices without increasing their electricity consumption. Most of the time, for any electronic device, it is a monumental task to deliver a powerful machine without increasing its energy expense. But Bitmain was able to shock the audience with the introduction of the two Antminers which achieved both feats.
Another key feature of the two premium mining devices is the heat evasion system. Based on a dual heat evasion technology, the design of the miners focuses on creating a minimal space between the inlet and the outlet. This allows for a more efficient radiation of heat energy.
The state-of-the-art technology is supplemented by the fan-abnormal and high temperature protection mechanism that makes the Antminers fault tolerant to physical inconsistencies. This lucrative feature is fundamental to the survival of mining hardware. Most of these devices run in large-scale data centers where clusters of computers work together to mine cryptocurrency. Temperatures can get really high and most of the commodity hardware lose their functionality rapidly.
The Antminers also use industrial standard Exposed Die solution (here’s an academic elaboration on the technology for the interested). A flexible design of the hardware will allow the Antminers to be adjusted in data-centers of various scales.
Stormy Time for the Crypto Mining Giant
The Summit was undoubtedly a massive success for Bitmain, which still cast a huge shadow over the entire Bitcoin(BTC)trade mining industry. The past 3 months for the company have been turbulent owing to the cryptocurrency price volatility of the whole crypto market.
The company’s quarreled bureaucratic structure and an increased competition from outsiders have threatened the growth of the company, despite of ambitious plans to establish a huge crypto mining facility in Texas.
But Mr. Wu made no hesitation to emphasize the dedication with which Bitmain is engaging in research and development to create innovative mining devices ready-for-deployment at large scale mining farms. The launch of S17+ and T17+ attests the seriousness of his claim.
