Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) released the updated version of its wireless Echo Buds on Wednesday. The next-generation headphones have arrived one year and a half after the release of the first Echo Buds. With the second version, Amazon has done its best to solve the ussies users faced in the original device. The new Echo Buds are much lighter, more convenient, and more ergonomic than the previous model.

Following the announcement, Amazon stock advanced in prolonged trading on Wednesday. AMZN shares closed 1.97% down, at $3,333.00. However, after the market closed, Amazon stock jumped by 0.81% to $3,360.00. Amazon’s market cap has totaled $1.7 trillion. Year-to-date, AMZN stock is 2.34% up.

What Is Special about the Second Version of Amazon Echo Buds?

Firstly, the new Echo Buds take over the previous version by the improved design. Their size is 20% smaller and lighter than the first headphones. In addition, due to the shortened nozzle, they are less inserted into the ear canal, thus reducing pressure on the ears. Interchangeable nozzles in four sizes are now oval, which allows users to select the appropriate option more accurately. Besides, there are two more nozzles with “wings” in the kit.

Secondly, the carrying case for the headphones is 40% more compact than in the previous model. Notably, the case has a more modern USB-C charger that is nowadays used for laptops, tablets, or phones. If you want to enjoy wireless charging, you can pay $20 for an upgraded case.

The earbuds will be available in either black or glacier white color.

Furthermore, Echo Buds have such a feature as noise cancellation, similar to AirPods Pro. According to Amazon, the battery life of Echo Buds lasts about five hours with the active noise canceling mode. Meanwhile, the complete case with the built-in battery ensures two full charges or 15 hours of music listening. A 15-minute charging of the earbuds in the case adds 2 more hours of battery life.

Above all, Echo Buds support an Alexa voice assistant that allows you to ask questions as well as to choose songs, listen to audiobooks, and even control smart home devices.

Tom Taylor, senior vice president of Amazon Alexa, commented:

“It’s never been easier for customers to bring Alexa with them throughout their day.”

As for the pricing of Echo Buds, it starts from $119.99 for a version with wired charging and makes up $139.99 for the device with wireless charging. Pre-orders for the headphones started on Wednesday. Shipping will begin in May.
