VC firm Paradigm taps Facebook, Instagram vet David Swain

Crypto venture capital firm Paradigm has appointed David Swain as its new chief marketing officer.

Swain previously worked as head of global communications at Instagram and senior director of technology communications at Facebook. He also served as vice president of global partnerships at the social fitness app Strava.

According to a report from The Block, Swain was enthused to join Paradigm, citing his extensive experience in the tech sector and his belief in the transformative potential of cryptocurrency.

The report further stated that Alana Palmedo, Paradigm’s managing partner and chief operating officer, praised Swain’s understanding of technical breakthroughs and his valuable perspective for the firm’s portfolio and the broader crypto industry.

The experienced executive’s appointment comes soon after Paradigm reaffirmed its commitment to supporting blockchain startups and other new technologies, such as artificial intelligence.

In June, the venture capital firm successfully raised $850 million for its fund, which aims to continue its support for early-stage crypto projects.

At the time, Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang highlighted the VC firm’s enduring belief in crypto’s importance as a technical and economic shift, a sentiment that has only grown stronger since Paradigm’s founding.

So far in 2024, Paradigm has played key roles in the funding of more than 10 major crypto projects. Notable investments include leading a $225 million series A round for layer 1 blockchain developer Monad and a $150 million series A for decentralized social networking protocol Farcaster

The investment giant was also a major contributor to the $70 million round for Bitcoin (BTC) staking protocol Babylon as well as a series A round for zero-knowledge proofs startup Succinct Labs that managed to raise $55 million.

Swain’s new role at Paradigm is expected to improve the company’s outreach and communication efforts, and help align its mission to support the next generation of crypto innovators.
