Trump is in talks to speak at Bitcoin 2024 in July: report

With just months left until the 2024 U.S. election, former President Trump is looking to cement a potentially key group: the crypto community.

According to Axios, Trump is in talks with an eye on speaking at the Bitcoin 2024 convention, which is expected to take place from July 25th – 27th, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.

Axios reported this on Monday, citing two sources familiar with the development.

Trump and his growing Bitcoin, crypto-friendly stance

Bitcoin Magazine’s Bitcoin 2024 event is the largest BTC event of the year and it takes place right after the Republican National Convention ends. Notably, it was at the Bitcoin 2020 event in Miami where El Salvador announced its plan to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender.

Given, this event could offer Trump the platform to make a major statement about his Bitcoin stance.

Indeed, news of Trump’s plan to speak at this year’s Bitcoin event comes amid increased perception across the crypto industry that the former president is crypto-friendly. The comparison with Biden’s approach, certainly in the months before Trump’s emergence as a serious supporter of crypto, had the current administration as “not good” for the industry.

Earlier this month, Trump met leading Bitcoin miners in the US, with his comments following the meeting that all remaining BTC should be mined in the country.

During a recent rally, Trump said: “I will end Joe Biden’s war on crypto. We will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of Bitcoin will be made in America.”

Crypto donations for Trump’s campaign

This positive view of crypto among other pledges has seen Trump endear himself to the crypto industry, with on-chain donations to the Republican candidate one of the outcomes.

However, although Gemini crypto exchange founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, recently donated $2 million, the exact amount donated in crypto isn’t yet available.

Data from Breadcrumbs shows Trump’s campaign had received roughly $60,000 in on-chain crypto donations before the Winklevoss’ contribution.

Total on-chain donations currently stand at around $1,749,200 but with contributions made off-chain via exchanges to be available soon, that figure could be higher.
