Google’s Pixel 8 Event to Happen on October 4

Along with Pixel 8, Google is likely to introduce a range of new hardware, including the company’s latest wearable, the Pixel Watch 2.

The tech industry is bracing for the upcoming hardware season where Apple, Google, and others will be flashing their new hardware gadgets in the market. A day after Apple officially named the date for its iPhone 15 unveiling, Google announced the date for its next Pixel release.

The forthcoming iteration of the company’s exclusive smartphone will debut on October 4 in New York City. During this event, it is highly likely that Google will unveil the upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flagship models. This built upon the earlier introduction of the Pixel 7a and Google’s inaugural foldable device, the Pixel Fold, at the I/O event.

If history is any indication, the annual fall Made by Google event will introduce a range of new hardware, including the company’s latest wearable, the Pixel Watch 2. Last year’s Pixel Watch received a mixed reception but was generally well-received as Google’s inaugural true Wear OS device. It also benefitted from the company’s 2019 Fitbit acquisition which brought many positive features to the device.

Improvement in Google’s Pixel Handsets

Meanwhile, Google’s phone lineup has been steadily improving since the significant transformation brought by the Pixel 6 in 2021. The introduction of a new premium design, enhanced optics, and the proprietary Tensor chip marked a turning point for the line.

Leaks for the upcoming device have already surfaced, showcasing early images that bear a resemblance to the Pixel 7. Reports also indicate that the Tensor G3 chip will incorporate nine cores based on the Arm Immortalis architecture.

In terms of other expectations, the Pixel Tablet is not likely to receive an update. Also, it has been a while since substantial updates have been seen in the Nest/Home product line. Google’s smart home offerings have seemingly taken a back seat, making this event an opportunity to address that and potentially bring meaningful improvements.

Pixel 8 Expected Specs

The Pixel 8 Pro’s recent surge in leaks has ignited numerous rumors about its features. It will come with a rear temperature sensor, a 6.7-inch 120 Hz QHD+ LTPO OLED display, the Tensor G3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and storage options of 128GB or 256GB.

The device is likely to feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, a triple rear camera system (including a 50 MP main with OIS, a 64 MP ultrawide, and a 48 MP telephoto lens), an 11 MP front-facing camera, and a robust 4,950 mAh battery with support for 27W wired charging. As anticipated, it will debut with Android 14 as its operating system.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 will share many similarities with its Pro counterpart. It will also feature the Tensor G3 chipset and run Android 14. The device will sport the same 11 MP selfie camera, offer storage choices of 128GB or 256GB, and feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. Its display will measure 6.17 inches with a resolution of 1080×2400 and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

Its camera system comprises a dual setup with a 50 MP primary lens and a 12 MP ultrawide lens. The Pixel 8 will feature a 4,485 mAh battery, supporting both 24W wired charging and 12W wireless charging.
