Crypto enthusiast Ron DeSantis drops out of US Presidential race

An advocate of the crypto community, American politician Ron DeSantis withdraws from the race for the U.S. presidency paving the way for Donald Trump.

In his post on X, the politician announced he did not see a clear path to victory and said he would be suspending his campaign effective immediately. DeSantis emphasized that he would support fellow party member Trump, who, according to him, is superior to the current Democratic President Joe Biden and deserves “another chance.”

The statement came after the internal Republican elections in Iowa where DeSantis lost to Trump in a race that saw each candidate trade blows about everything from trade to the military. According to recent polls, the governor peaked at just six percent of the vote.

Earlier, Francis Suarez and Vivek Ramaswamy both endorsed Trump, with only Robert Kennedy Jr. remaining as a the sole crypto friendly candidate in the Republican primaries.

Kennedy Jr. has repeatedly supported blockchain technology and called Bitcoin (BTC) the “currency of freedom.” He has also criticized central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) for potentially becoming tools for governments to control citizens’ financial transactions, a line Trump has taken as well.

The U.S. elections are scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024, with the Republican primaries set to continue through Q1 2024.
